Casa Adora Overnight Buckwheat Jar — A Gut Health Breakfast

September 1, 2026

This buckwheat breakfast is part of a morning routine that started as an experiment. A glass jar, a handful of ingredients, ten minutes of assembly the night before. By morning it's ready — no cooking, no fuss, just a proper gut health breakfast waiting in the fridge. Some mornings it's overnight oats with kefir. Some mornings it's this.

Buckwheat groats are soaked overnight to soften and remove their natural gel, then drained and rinsed clean. The kefir, almond milk, seeds and dried fruit soak separately — the kefir doing its quiet fermentation work through the night, the seeds softening, the dried fruit plumping. In the morning it all comes together in the jar with a drizzle of honey. Chewy, creamy, tangy, lightly sweet.

It's a kefir breakfast in the fullest sense — the kefir is doing genuine gut health work here, not just adding creaminess. Buckwheat is a resistant starch, which feeds the good bacteria in your gut. The seeds add prebiotic fibre. The honey rounds the edges. Everything in this jar has a reason to be there.

How to Make an Overnight Buckwheat Breakfast Jar

Night before — Jar 1: the buckwheat

  • 60g raw buckwheat groats
  • Cold water to cover by 2–3cm

Place the buckwheat groats in a jar. Cover with cold water by a couple of centimetres. Refrigerate overnight.

Night before — Jar 2: the kefir mix

  • 120ml bio kefir
  • 80ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp mixed seeds
  • 1–2 tbsp dried fruit (banana, raisins, pineapple)

Combine kefir, almond milk, seeds and dried fruit in a second jar. Stir, cover and refrigerate overnight. The kefir ferments gently, the seeds soften, the fruit plumps.

Morning assembly

  • 1–2 tsp runny honey
  • Splash of almond milk to loosen (optional)

Drain and rinse the buckwheat thoroughly — this removes the natural gel and leaves the groats clean and chewy. Return them to the jar. Spoon over the kefir and almond milk mixture. Drizzle with honey. Add a splash more almond milk if you prefer it looser. Eat straight from the jar.
