A Curious Arrival in Monte Lope Álvarez - an Andalusian Village Mystery
Early November in Monte Lope Álvarez, and the mild sun warmed Casa Adora’s courtyard, surrounded by silvery-green olive trees. The scent of freshly baked biscuits drifted on the breeze, drawing a small audience of highly observant animals.
Issy and Poppy, our ever-watchful galgos, were on alert. Something—or someone—had arrived in the village, and it smelled suspicious.
“This is new,” Poppy said, adjusting her monocle. “And it is… how you say… sospechoso.”
Issy pricked her ears. “Suspicious,” she translated. “This. Exactly this. I sense… an Andalusian village mystery.”
Álvaro, visiting for the autumn half-term break, looked up from arranging biscuits into precise geometric patterns. “New person? Who?”
“The wrong kind,” said Russ darkly. “The kind who pays thousands in cash, demands a villa with no cameras, and flinches at the Guardia Civil.”
The object of their attention was a brash, loud Englishman—Stephen Robinson, or some permutation thereof—arriving in a silver Bentley. His behaviour was flamboyant, his voice even more so, and he conducted all business in fifty-euro notes, much to the villagers’ bemusement.
Observations from the Funny Animal Detectives
The Fur Force—Issy, Poppy, Jasper the bonkers rabbit, Gary the albino gerbil, Toffee the dog, and Spiny Norman the hedgehog—sprang into action.
Key Observations
Gary claimed he was excellent at surveillance.
Toffee monitored the bar, noting loud complaints about overpriced drinks.
Jasper the bonkers rabbit theorised, wildly, that Robinson might be fleeing something serious back home.
Issy and Álvaro walked past the villa, casually noting the señor’s phone calls and bursts of anger, particularly about “contempt of court.”
The pattern was clear: large sums of cash, villa specifications, flashy car, avoidance of authority—classic expat life in Spain gone sideways.
The Extortion Attempt
Antonio Tuerca, local mechanic, appeared in the courtyard, whispering urgently.
“The Englishman came to my workshop,” he said.
“He asked me to… change the car. Colour, plates… illegal stuff. He threatened me when I said no.”
Poppy scribbled in her notepad. “Attempted vehicle fraud and extortion,” she muttered.
Gary squeaked with satisfaction. “Justice opportunity!”
Operation Silver Ghost
The plan was audacious: distract Robinson while the Guardia Civil arrived to investigate Antonio’s complaint.
Execution Strategy
Jasper the bonkers rabbit spotted a “suspicious package” (really a biscuit tin) near the Bentley.
Gary infiltrated the car, triggering the alarm.
Issy and Poppy, with me in tow, watched from behind an olive tree.
By 11:03 a.m., the car alarm wailed. Robinson flailed, swearing, cursing the mechanics of luxury engineering. And just on cue, the Guardia Civil appeared.
The Culprit Apprehended
Two officers, calm and professional, confirmed the complaint and escorted Robinson for questioning. He was cooperative but flustered, calculating escape routes even as the village watched.
The villagers, Antonio included, breathed a collective sigh of relief. The Bentley remained intact, Robinson was removed, and justice, quiet but firm, had been served.
Epilogue: Peace Restored
Three days later, the courtyard buzzed with calm chaos. Churros were shared, biscuits consumed, and the Fur Force—our funny animal detectives—reviewed their work.
🐾 “Case closed,” said Poppy.
🐾 “Village safe. Bentley slightly dusty,” added Issy.
🐀 “Justice served!” Gary squeaked proudly.
Monte Lope Álvarez returned to its quiet rhythm, olive groves glowing in the sunset, church bells chiming in the distance, and the scent of freshly baked biscuits drifting through the evening air.
