Nine Million Reasons to Raise an Eyebrow: Reform UK Donation, Christopher Harborne, Brexit Money Trails & an £80m MoD Contract

The courtyard at Casa Adora glowed in soft December sunshine as Dad settled on the roof terrace with a mug of tea, a pile of custard creams, and his battered copy of How To Be Right—the unofficial handbook for surviving British politics. Meanwhile, Issy and Poppy were sunbathing on the tiles, blissfully unaware that Dad was about to stumble into yet another Reform UK donation rabbit hole involving Christopher Harborne, aka Chakrit Sakunkrit, Brexit money, and an astonishing £80 million Ministry of Defence contract.

Issy twitched an ear.
“Dad, politics AND biscuits? That’s a dangerous combination.”

The Reform UK Donation Mystery: Nine Million Pounds and One Very Familiar Name

Dad read aloud with the dread of a man who knew exactly where this was going:

“Crypto investor donates record £9 million to Reform UK.”

Poppy blinked.
“Nine million? That’s enough jamón to last the whole of Andalucía.”

Dad added a line he’d just spotted:
“And this donation landed in the summer — the very same time Farage suddenly began aggressively promoting crypto schemes. Interesting timing…”

Issy raised an eyebrow.
“Synchronised crypto enthusiasm? Muy sospechoso.”

Christopher Harborne: Brexit Party Mega-Donor With Dual Identity

Dad groaned.

“And he lives in Thailand. Uses the Thai name Chakrit Sakunkrit.”

Issy lifted her head like a seasoned detective.
“Two names? Suspicious. Very suspicious.”

Poppy added:
“And he’s lived in Thailand for two decades, right? That’s a long time to perfect a second identity.”

Dad nodded.
“Exactly. Harborne has been based there for around twenty years, and ‘Chakrit Sakunkrit’ is the name used for much of his business activity — and some political donations.”

Issy snorted.
“Total double-life energy.”

Brexit Millions: The Money Trail Begins

Dad scrolled further, muttering as he went.

“This is Christopher Harborne, one of the biggest political donors in Britain. Gave over £6 million to the Brexit Party in 2019 alone — £3 million in summer, another £3 million before the election. His sister even stood as a Brexit Party candidate.”

Issy tilted her head.
“So he backed Brexit like Poppy backs sleeping — all-in.”

Poppy nodded.
“And now he’s handing £9 million to Reform UK? That’s a LOT of influence.”

Boris Johnson, Direct Donations & the £80 Million MoD Contract

Dad continued:

“He also donated £1 million directly to Boris Johnson’s company in November 2022 — one of the biggest individual politician donations ever made.”

Poppy gasped.
“That’s more money than Dad spends on biscuits!”

Issy leaned forward, eyes narrowing.
“And let me guess… something else very convenient happened afterwards?”

Dad sighed.

“In January 2023, the Ministry of Defence awarded Qinetiq — a company where Harborne was the largest single shareholder — a contract worth £80 million.”

Issy stared at the tiles.
“Dad… that’s not just suspicious. That’s Level Mega, capital-D Dodgy.”

Poppy whispered:
“Chungo. Very, very chungo.”

Casa Adora Intelligence Unit: Operation Sakunkrit Begins

The greyhounds gathered around Dad’s pile of “classified” files — or as Issy calls them: “Evidence we absolutely weren’t supposed to see.”

File 1: Reform UK Donation – £9 Million

Clues: Crypto, Thailand, timing that overlaps Farage’s sudden crypto push.
Greyhound Analysis: “Too many zeros. Too many coincidences.”

File 2: Brexit Party Millions

Clues: £6m+, sister as candidate, record-breaking sums.
Greyhound Analysis: “Someone REALLY loves Brexit.”

File 3: Boris Johnson Donation

Clues: £1m donation to “The Office of Boris Johnson Ltd”.
Greyhound Analysis: “If someone gave Dad £1m, we’d get luxury dog beds.”

File 4: £80m MoD Contract to Qinetiq

Clues: Awarded shortly after donations, shareholder link.
Greyhound Analysis: “Coincidence? LOL.”

Closing Scene: Tea, Tiles & Too Many Coincidences

Dad closed How To Be Right with a sigh.
Issy and Poppy returned to sunbathing.

Issy whispered:
“Dad, British politics is wilder than chasing a rabbit.”

Poppy replied:
“And definitely more expensive.”

Dad smiled.
“Same time tomorrow for the next investigation, agents?”

Two tails thumped.
Operation Sakunkrit continues…

The views expressed by Issy & Poppy Investigations are entirely their own and may not reflect official political reality, basic logic, or the current whereabouts of any missing custard creams. All characters—human, canine, and mysteriously wealthy donors—are presented with tongue firmly in cheek. Any resemblance to real scandals is purely because British politics keeps writing them for us.

Addendum:

Richard “Dubai Dick” Tice in 2018 slammed George Soros for donating to UK organisations, saying, “He doesn't live here. He doesn't pay taxes here. What right has he got to interfere with our democracy?” Yet here he is, comfortably ignoring that same principle when it comes to donations from foreign-based political financiers, proving that outrage about offshore influence can be highly selective — and highly convenient.

UPDATE — July 2026: The Heat Is On

Since Issy and Poppy filed their original report in December 2025, events have moved rather quickly. The numbers, it turns out, were even bigger than they appeared.

It has since emerged that Harborne gave Nigel Farage a personal gift of £5 million — separate from his donations to the party — which Farage says was for his personal security. Reform UK, meanwhile, has received approximately £12 million in declared political donations from Harborne since December 2025 alone, with his total giving to the party running to around £15 million during the period his lawyers had paused his Dow Jones lawsuit on medical grounds. The timing of that — donating lavishly to a political party while claiming to be too unwell to face a lawsuit — attracted its own pointed commentary.

As for the parliamentary heat: the Standards Commissioner, Daniel Greenberg, opened a formal inquiry into Farage on 13 May 2026, under Rule 5 of the MPs' code of conduct, for failing to register the £5 million gift. If found to have breached the rules, sanctions could range from an apology to suspension — and a suspension could trigger a by-election.

On the NCA point: bankers filed a suspicious activity report with the National Crime Agency over the £5 million transfer as far back as May 2024, unable to establish the ultimate origin of the funds. An SAR is not a criminal investigation — it is a flag — but it is the mechanism by which such things become one.

Issy and Poppy note, from the tiles: "We said 'chungo'. We stand by 'chungo'."
