Navarredonda de la Rinconada: Birding & Nature Escape

If you're looking for a quiet, nature-rich getaway in Spain, Navarredonda de la Rinconada, nestled in the Sierra de Francia, offers the perfect escape. With its elevated setting in Salamanca province, oak and chestnut woodlands, and a nearby Parque Micológico, this small village provides a scenic, peaceful retreat ideal for walking, birding, and soaking up rural charm.

We based ourselves at a convenient and free Área de Autocaravanas, generously provided by the local town hall. This motorhome stop near Pico Cervero sits at an elevation of 1,026 metres and includes water, waste disposal, recycling bins, picnic tables, and even free Wi-Fi. It’s a peaceful, green space just a short stroll from the heart of the village, which has a population of only 185.

Our visit rewarded us with some memorable bird sightings. The bird of the day was undoubtedly a Short-toed Treecreeper, spotted near the protected Parque Micológico, where mushroom collecting is only allowed with a permit. This regulation helps to preserve the delicate forest ecosystem and promotes sustainable foraging. We also recorded a lark, several Blue Tits, and other familiar species that filled the air with song. If you're a birdwatcher, this area is a hidden gem.

Just a short drive from the village, you’ll find Piscina Natural Las Dehesas, a lovely natural pool ideal for a cooling dip in summer. Surrounded by shady trees and grassy banks, it’s a popular local spot and well worth visiting if you're in the area during warmer months.

Pristine air, quiet walks, and a Short-toed Treecreeper before breakfast — Navarredonda de la Rinconada is one of those stops that earns a return visit. One of Spain's lesser-known corners, and all the better for it.
