For two consecutive years I have joined Marbella 4 Days Walking, which is an organised walk of 80km over four days starting at Puerto de Marbella and venturing up into the Sierra Blanca.
In 2014 I retired with blisters, 60km had taken its toll on my feet.
However, this year I was determined to avoid foot failure. Firstly, I bought new, wider, more supportive walking boots that I wore in. To add to this I went with the two sock strategy but not just two pairs of socks, the inner pair were anti blister socks at a cost of 13€ a pair and I had four pairs.
The blisters started on day one. By day two and after my third visit to the medical tent the doctor said, no more. My feet had failed but I’m pleased to report that my sponsors still came through with their donations which went to Acompalia who are building a hospice in Andalucia. Author, Chris Stewart is vice-president. More information here: http://www.acompalia.org
Fran, my walking buddy, completed her 80km last year and this year, and she has the medals to prove it.
Meanwhile, I had to wait in a bar for the returning walkers whilst I sipped cold beer and contemplated buying a bike.
