Bees vs Wasps: A Different View
May 17, 2015

It is easy to love bees but today I saw this and it reminded me that wasps always get a bad press, from me too until I read about wasps and cockroaches. Now there's a cockroach or two in Andalucía so I find this amazing. So if you have ever wondered what’s the purpose of wasps then read the next paragraph.

Bees v Wasps

A wasp, I forget which variety but hopefully the ones that visit my garden, will sting a cockroach’s brain and insert mind numbing venom thus rendering it zombified. Meanwhile, the wasp flips over the roach and lays an egg inside its stomach. The larvae then bore into the cockroach and feeds off its interior.

Am I the only one to see wasps in a different light now?

  1. Put up a puffy brown paper bag. Tape it to roof on eave or under covered porches. This keeps the wasp away from house. They think its a meaner thing than they.
