From the Family Kitchen — Rochdale, Gran Alacant & Beyond
Food runs in families. Not recipes passed down formally — just the habit of cooking, the instinct to feed people properly, the quiet pride in putting something good on the table. These are family recipes UK-wide, from real kitchens, real people, and real occasions. My family has the habit. All of them, in different kitchens, in different places.
It started with Agnes Isabella Morrison — my grandmother. A Scottish woman who cooked without fuss and without waste, whose Scottish Stovies and Braised Cabbage in Ham Stock are already on TFC, and whose instinct for making something from almost nothing passed quietly down through the generations. These are easy family recipes in the truest sense — no cookbooks, no techniques, just good food made with care.
My son Danny has access to Grimsby's wholesale fish market and cooks fish the way it deserves to be cooked. My son Chris has a Gozney Dome in his back garden in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, and is working his way through everything fire can do to food. My sister Debbie and her husband Andy divide their time between Rochdale and their holiday home in Gran Alacant, near Santa Pola on the Alicante coast — and wherever they are, they cook. Between them, they represent some of the best family recipes UK cooking has to offer — honest, unpretentious, and genuinely worth making.

These are family dinner recipes from real kitchens. I write the posts in my own voice, from their photos and their recipes. The food is theirs. The words are mine.
Family Recipes UK — Debbie & Andy, Rochdale & Gran Alacant
Two locations, one couple, completely natural cooking. Andy on the BBQ when it's almost warm enough in Rochdale. Debbie in the kitchen in Gran Alacant, the sun still fierce at teatime. Between them — proper food, no fuss, and the kind of family recipes UK households will recognise immediately.

Debbie & Andy's BBQ Yogurt Marinated Chicken Thighs — Andy's Indian-spiced yogurt marinated chicken thighs, cooked on the BBQ on a rainy Bank Holiday Monday in Rochdale. Debbie's chopped salad alongside. Perfectly Northern.
Debbie & Andy's Pan Fried Hake — Gran Alacant — fresh merluza from the waters off Santa Pola, olive oil, salt and pepper, crushed new potatoes alongside. Andy's kitchen, Gran Alacant, mid-August. They ate inside. It was tea time.
Debbie's Prawn Frittata — A Tortilla-Frittata from Rochdale — eight eggs, king prawns, spinach, extra mature cheddar and red pepper, finished under the grill. A tortilla-frittata that sits happily between Spain and Italy, made on an ordinary day in Rochdale.
Debbie's Potato Crust Quiche — Gluten Free — boiled potatoes pressed around a pie dish, baked blind, filled with eggs, cottage cheese, bacon and cherry tomatoes. Made for a gluten-free friend. Not a compromise — a genuinely good idea.
Debbie & Andy's Bank Holiday Tea — Garlic Prawns, Air Fryer Salmon & Mediterranean Couscous — garlic prawns to start, air fryer salmon with Mediterranean couscous salad alongside, fruit salad with lime to finish. Three courses, two people, a Bank Holiday Monday evening in Rochdale. In the North of England, that's tea.
Debbie's Prawn Cocktail — Rose Marie Dressing, Rochdale — king prawns on shredded iceberg, cucumber and tomato, dressed in a proper Rose Marie — salad cream, ketchup, vinegar and lemon juice. A classic starter, done properly, in Rochdale.
Andy's Red Lentil Dhal — A Rochdale Kitchen Recipe — 200g red lentils, garlic, cumin, black onion seeds, chilli and tinned tomatoes, simmered until thick and creamy and finished with lemon. Andy cooked it in Rochdale. Debbie says it was bloody yummy.
From the Gozney — Chris Morrison, Ramsbottom
My son Chris has a Gozney Dome in his back garden in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, and he knows how to use it. Proper fire cooking — cast iron, high heat, and the kind of results that make you wonder why you ever used an oven. Chris sends the recipe, the method, and a photo. I write it up in my own voice.

All of Chris's recipes live in the Wood-Fired Recipes hub — From the Gozney, Ramsbottom.
From the Market — Danny Morrison, Cleethorpes
My son Danny has access to Grimsby's wholesale fish market — one of the best in the country — and he cooks fish the way it deserves to be cooked. Simply, carefully, and with proper respect for the ingredient. Danny sends the recipe, the method, and a photo. I write it up in my own voice.

All of Danny's recipes live in the Fish & Seafood Recipes hub — From the Market, Grimsby.
