Issy and Poppy are the real-life sleuths of Monte Lope Álvarez — helped, of course, by a few ghostly friends from Dad’s childhood: Kizzy the cat, Jasper the bonkers rabbit, and Jedi hedgehog Master Whisker-Wan, who still love good kids adventure stories.
☀️ Trouble in Monte Lope Álvarez
Casa Adora basked in the sun, Kizzy the cat snored in her favourite flowerpot, and Issy and Poppy chatted in Spanish in the courtyard. These lively sleuths star in exciting kids adventure stories, born and bred in Spain, fluent in Spanish, and excellent in English.
“Dos galletas por favor,” said Poppy politely.
Issy raised an eyebrow. “Two biscuits? That’s never enough.”
A sharp whistle echoed through the village — trouble had arrived.
🚌 The Mayor’s Broken Promise
The mayor of Martos (locals pronounced it “Marto”) had done it again. Before the election, he promised:
“Vote for me and I’ll double the bus service — two trips a day!”
For one glorious week, the village enjoyed two buses a day. Then — poof! — the second bus vanished.
The mayor’s excuse? “Under-utilised.”
Issy tilted her head. “Under what?”
“Poco utilizado,” explained Poppy.
✊ Villagers Mobilise
A crowd gathered in Plaza Juan Carlos I.
Sacri, president of Asociación de Vecinos El Monte (AVVA) — “so good they almost made the acronym twice as long,” said Issy, proud she knew that an acronym was a word made from initials — stood on the fountain edge, clipboard in hand.
Around her: Antonio Kung Fu, Paco Papá Noel, and Martha, calling in favours and gossip.
“¡Basta! Enough,” said Sacri. “We’re going to Martos!”
Three coaches were booked, whistles distributed, and placards painted:
“¡Las promesas no son opcionales!”
“¡Devuelvan el autobús!”
🕵️♀️ The Detective Team 👻
Issy and Poppy gathered their team:
Jasper, the ghost rabbit, bouncing: “¡Venga! Someone is hiding the truth!”
Spiny Norman, grumbling: “Importanter nonsense.”
Master Whisker-Wan, nibbling a pen-lid lightsabre: “Observe carefully.”
“Cuidado!” Issy warned.
“I smell bureaucracy… and biscuits,” Poppy added.
(For the grown-ups: that’s official rules, red tape, and all the paper shuffling you remember from your office days.)
🚍 Arrival in Martos
Coaches rumbled through olive groves on a warm November day. Sacri declared:
“Marchamos desde aquí — to the ayuntamiento!”
🔍 Clues Inside the Ayuntamiento
Inside, the smell of old wood and paper made everyone serious — and slightly hungry.
Issy and Poppy followed faint clues: missing timetables, scribbled notes, and unattended clipboards.
“¿Dónde está el horario?” asked Issy.
Jasper darted around: “It’s hidden! Behind a filing cabinet! Or maybe inside the photocopier!”
“¡Silencio!” hissed Poppy. “Focus. Evidence, not imagination.”
Master Whisker-Wan tiptoed along a desk edge: “The clues are in plain sight. Observe.”
📞 A Suspicious Call
Martha’s phone buzzed. Whispering:
“Sí, sí… el bus… no funcionó… claro… mañana en la plaza.”
“Anda!” said Issy. “It didn’t disappear — it didn’t function.”
“Someone wanted it to fail,” said Poppy.
🔎 Crumbs Lead to Evidence
Biscuit crumbs led to a small office where a tired intern had fallen asleep over schedules.
“What’s an intern?” asked Poppy.
“Someone who’s learning on the job,” whispered Issy.
They found a note:
“Recoger datos de uso — pero no antes del lunes.”
(Collect usage data — but not before Monday.)
“¡Anda ya! Deliberate delay! Sabotaje burocrático!” Jasper exclaimed.
Issy floated above the desk. “Exactamente. Mismanaged, not under-utilised.”
Poppy tapped a paw. “Time to present the evidence. Whistles ready?”
🗣️ Confrontation
Villagers chanted:
“¡Devuelvan el autobús! ¡Las promesas no son opcionales!”
Sacri stepped forward with the evidence. The mayor stammered.
Poppy’s monocle lowered. “Really? That is your explanation?”
Issy floated higher. “¡Venga! Fix this, pronto.”
Spiny Norman shuffled forward. “Better do it, or I’ll make it importanter…”
💡 Resolution (for now…)
The bus service resumed properly.
Villagers monitored usage.
Sacri oversaw everything like a biscuit-loving hawk.
“Another mystery solved,” Poppy said.
“Por ahora,” Issy added. “Monte Lope Álvarez always has another adventure just around the corner.”
