Vanlife | Fuerte del Rey (King's Fort), Jaén

I stopped at a carpark of a picnic area called Parque de la Fuente de Regomello. There is a concrete hardstanding, not completely level but good enough. And at night it is illuminated.

At the top of a set of steps are several picnic tables and benches (no shade) on two different levels with views of the countryside. There is a pedestrian walkway to the village.

The water fountain wasn't working. There are rubbish bins and a glass recycling bin. Unlike other picnic areas this one was more or less litter free until day two when the wind got up and blew the hidden rubbish from the bushes.

There were several options for walking my dogs in the campo although it is steep.

The area is close to the road but it wasn't busy and not intrusive. We didn't see a soul the whole time were here (mid-week).

There is some shade which was much appreciated, although I had to move the van a couple of times to keep in it. I asked my friend about shade as she lived in a caravan in Catalonia some years ago. She told me they erected a tarpaulin for shade, and created an outside kitchen. They only used the caravan for sleeping and using the bucket (they lived a rustic lifestyle).

The 4g reception was reasonable to good.

The village is a 3 minutes’ drive or a 15 minute walk where there is a small supermarket and a bar.

I didn't find any evidence of a King's fort.
